Eddy Elephant was strolling through the garden when he spotted something wiggly hiding in the grass, twisting and turning in a strange, snake-like dance.
“A snake!” he gasped, freezing on the spot, his heart thumping fast against his big gray chest.
Slowly, carefully, Eddy tiptoed closer, one giant foot at a time. “Ssshhh, ssshhh,” he whispered to himself, holding his breath, ready to bolt at the slightest movement.
He stretched his trunk out, just a little closer…
SPLASH!
Water burst upward, spraying right across his trunk!
“WAHHHH!” Eddy stumbled backward, shaking water from his ears — then froze, blinking. It wasn’t a snake at all. It was a sprinkler, spinning happily and spraying cool, sparkling water in every direction!
Eddy stared for a moment… then burst into giggles. “That was silly! And actually kind of wonderful!”
He trotted closer, letting the cool water wash over his back, laughing with pure delight. The splashing sounds drew his friends running over, curious and excited.
“Come cool off with me!” Eddy called, waving them in with his trunk.
One by one, they joined in, giggling and splashing beneath the sprinkler’s happy, sparkling spray.
What began as a scary mix-up had turned into the most refreshing, joyful game of the whole day.
Lesson: A little surprise can become a happy game.
